Abstract

Rural farmers in India face persistent economic losses due to excessive intermediary involvement, payment delays, and lack of access to real-time market pricing. This paper presents AgroChain, a blockchain-based crop trading and payment platform that enables direct transactions between farmers, buyers, and distributors through Ethereum smart contracts. The proposed system employs a decentralized escrow mechanism that automatically locks buyer payments upon order placement and releases funds to the farmer only upon confirmed delivery, eliminating trust issues inherent in traditional supply chains. An Oracle integration provides real-time crop price feeds, ensuring fair and transparent market pricing. The platform achieves an average transaction completion time of 3–5 seconds and supports 50–80 transactions per second, demonstrating scalability for real-world agricultural markets. Testing across all user roles confirmed 100% data consistency between the PostgreSQL database and the blockchain ledger. The results validate that blockchain technology offers a reliable, transparent, and scalable foundation for modernizing agricultural trade in rural India.
