Abstract

Recent urban growth has led to an increase in tall buildings that are highly affected by wind and earthquake forces. To ensure their safety, detailed structural analysis is essential. This study examines the seismic behavior of a reinforced concrete multi-storey building with shear walls. The model is created in ETABS using appropriate material properties and loading conditions based on Indian codes. Dynamic response is evaluated through response spectrum analysis. Special attention is given to P-Delta effects, which introduce additional moments due to lateral displacement. Key parameters such as storey displacement, drift, base shear, and time period are analyzed. Results show that including P-Delta effects increases displacement and drift values. Shear walls significantly enhance stiffness and reduce excessive lateral movement. Overall, combining dynamic analysis with second-order effects provides a more realistic assessment for safe structural design.
